I took off work today. We woke up early in our apartment, we snuggled, got some breakfast and headed to the house to work. I’m ready to help in ALL OF THE WAYS …. until we get inside and remember that we do not yet have heat. It is 52 damn degrees and I die a little. We have to run Ethernet cable from the garage to the attic and back down into four rooms and a place in the ceiling for the access point. I’m really struggling. My nose falls off my face and shatters on the hardwood floors. Alagasco finally came and thawed me out eventually but damn. I was shit help as an ice cube. Six strands of cat-6 fished up a wall and back down later – the ethernet is done. How many feet did we go through? I don’t even know but we bought a 1000 foot spindle for $100 (amazing deal) and there’s still enough to run to the theater room and Jord’s office (which, while I’m mentioning jord’s office, we couldn’t get ethernet to it through the attic like the other rooms. Still searching for alternatives. It has become a later project, unfortunately. We also have to replace the floors and paint it. Lots of projects. It’s on the list. My bigly list of things to do.) I also helped him saw holes into our walls and create outlets and Ethernet jacks. (I truly didn’t know that he knew how to do any of this. Maybe he didn’t. Maybe he winged it real hard. Either way it worked out perfectly.) Jordan’s dad showed up sometime after the heat started working and took over for me and I found some initiative in my blood cells and started painting our bedroom. Hilariously, I picked a color that I thought was close to what was already on the walls –
Nope. But it’s okay. Jordan really wanted a darker bedroom anyway. Also when it dried it had kind of a blue tint to it. It’s all a surprise. This whole homeowner thing is full of surprises. It makes me very anxious. But look at our cool access point –
That night, my mother came over to see the house for the first time. I’m so happy she liked it but she’s said more than once “This is a lot of house to clean..” Which is kind of discouraging but I know she’s proud of me. Both of my parents told me they were proud of me and that doesn’t happen often so I’ll take it. She taught me how to clean carpets with a rented carpet cleaning machine that weighed 100 pounds and it was really great, the carpets looked BRAND NEW when we finished!! Mom is spending the night because tomorrow is our paint party and I didn’t want to make her drive an hour home to drive an hour back (chivalry).
