This morning was my favorite kind of morning – gloomy and rainy. I was woken up by a sleepy husband, enjoyed some extracurricular activities, and made one of my favorite breakfasts: sausage biscuits.
Most of you know that my father is estranged and I am blessed with an amazing step father – of whom I am usually referring to when I talk about “dad” – but when I am also mentioning sausage biscuits and talking about a dad – I’m bringing up the OG.
I have a few pleasant memories. I don’t want to talk about them. But if there is anything I remember about him it’s that he would always get biscuits from McDonald’s for us on Sundays – bacon egg and cheese for me and sausage for him – and he’d cover the whole thing in mustard. I thought it was too much.
A wise king once told me, ‘We are one.’ I didn’t understand him then but now I do. – Kiara, The Lion King II (1998).
A decade later, I make my own sausage biscuits and cover them in mustard. And I think of him and this delicious and tangy breakfast and I smile. But I don’t do drugs or mistreat my money or relationships. I just love mustard for breakfast.
We made a run to the Galleria today because we’re anticipating a big interview for Jord this week and he wanted something new and nice to wear. I’ll tell you now shopping for men’s clothes exhausts me because it’s so difficult. It’s amazing how 34/29 just won’t work when you’re a 34/30 and there’s absolutely no room for sacrifice. When there are a multitude of shirts that all look the same but are slightly different shades and sometimes even more slightly different patterns – how do you not want to give up immediately? Especially when your husband is color deficient? When you’re standing alone in a forest of every color neck tie and wonder if you knocked one over and no one is there to hear it would it still make a sound – well, the answer is yes. Sound waves are still generated regardless of the presence of instruments that can hear it. But Charles from the shoe department is an instrument that would DEFINITELY hear it.
While waiting around, I challenged myself to a game of find the biggest shirt you can find. I won.
We successfully threw together a full outfit. Then it was time to successfully throw food down my throat.
Okay so… these are chicken phillies from Charley’s. Not to be confused with O’Charley’s, Charley’s is a philly cheese steak / sub franchise that is extremely popular among military bases – I learned this as an Asian woman was shoving samples in my hands and Jordan was saying to me “Wow I used to walk three miles a day to get these!!!” Well today we walked less than a mile and used an escalator to get to memory lane and spent a half hour google image searching for the exact PX at Fort Sill.
I’m glad he enjoyed his time in the army but I’m soooooooo fucking glad that’s over.
We didn’t have much to do today. We had to make a Target run for facewash and a few groceries. The rain had stopped but it was still cloudy (my fave, honestly). We made it home, found out we left the front door open all day (WHOOPS), finished reading The Hot Zone (finally) and got ready for our 9pm HBO date – Silicon Valley is back tonight yall!
